Model: Era III. The locomotive has a compact design controlled C-Sine high-efficiency propulsion. The locomotive has a DCC/Selectrix decoder with automatic analog operation recognition; this decoder can also be used in conventional operation. 3 axles powered. 2 traction tires. The tender is made of metal. There is a close coupling between the locomotive and tender that can be adjusted for different curves. A 7226 smoke generator can be installed in the locomotive. The locomotive has triple headlights that change over with the direction of travel; they are maintenance-free LED's. The headlights and a smoke generator that can be installed in the locomotive will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. There is a close coupler with a guide mechanism and an NEM coupler pocket on the tender. Minimum radius for operation 360 mm / 14-3/16". Length over the buffers 275 mm / 10-13/16".
This model can be found in an AC version in the Märklin assortment under item no. 39015. The DB express train passenger cars 23400, 23401, 23402, 23403, and 23404 well as the 23414 car set go well with this locomotive.
The two-cylinder class 01 locomotives were delivered starting in 1925 as the first express locomotives from the German State Railroad's standard design program. Of the total of 231 units placed into service, those locomotives with road numbers from 01 102 on had reinforced brakes and front pilot truck wheels with a diameter of 1,000 mm / 39-3/8". This allowed the maximum speed to be increased from 120 to 130 km/h / 75 to 81 mph. Several of the sprightly 01 veterans are still in existence today. Their mighty appearance and the experience of hearing them "breathe" impress many friends of these "living" machines in museums and especially on special runs of steam express trains.
