Model: The locomotive has a digital decoder for DCC, Selectrix, and analog operation with automatic system recognition; this decoder can also be used in conventional operation. The locomotive has a special can motor. 4 axles are powered through cardan shafts. Traction tires. The triple headlights change over with the direction of travel and have maintenance-free LEDs. The headlights will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. The locomotive has 4 pantographs that will work mechanically but do not pick up current from the catenary wire. The locomotive has close couplers in NEM pockets at both ends.

BLS on Europe's Rail Lines - What to the German Railroad, Inc. the class 185 is, is the rather similar class 485 to the Swiss BLS Lötschberg Railroad. The multi-system type of locomotive is a further development of the Eurosprinter family and has become at home on railroads in many countries in Europe. Aside from the different power outputs, the locomotives delivered to the various railroads also have externally very recognizable differences. For example, the class 485 units running in Switzerland have four pantographs on the roof for operation on the narrower SBB clearance gauge and the wider zigzag pattern of catenary in other European countries. This means that you can see the BLS 485 locomotives on many European rail lines far beyond the borders of Switzerland. BLS Cargo, Inc. runs unit trains in European traffic in accompanied combined service (Rolling Freeway Freiburg - Novara) and unaccompanied combined service (UKV) as well as in conventional service (car load service) such as for bulk freight and petroleum oil transport.
