Good Luck, Zollverein Coal Mine! The Zollverein is considered one of the most beautiful mines in the Ruhr area. And if that is so, then it is the most beautiful mine in the world. The Zollverein Foundation has therefore made great efforts to have the Zollverein cultural landscape put at the top of the list of suggestions for the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. The two architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer were inspired by the Bauhaus movement. They used the principles of symmetry and geometry in a consistent, harmonious fashion to design this industrial complex arranged in two axes. Their design for the Zollverein Shaft XII is a unique model layout.
