Cooling towers are typical for many of the complexes in the coal and steel industry. Today they are familiar mainly at power plants, but they can be found all areas of large industry where there are installations to circulate cooling water. The cooling water that becomes warmer in different processes is pumped up through the lift pipes and directed through distributor pipes to the sides of the towers where it drips down. The water is cooled by the surrounding air and by evaporation so that it can be recirculated as cooling water in the industrial process. The cooling towers can be set up prototypically near blast furnaces, coking plants, power plants, coal mines and, of course, steel works.
