Prototype information

After World War II the former German State Railroad SVT express rail car trains were the latest thing that the newly established German Federal Railroad had to offer. The expensive diesel-electric plant in these trains did not however quite reflect the spirit of the DB at that time. One rail car train was therefore converted to diesel-hydraulic motive power and used in long distance express passenger service. The knowledge gained from this contributed greatly to the development of the modern V 80 and V 200 diesel locomotives.
