Prototype information

The Austrian Federal Railways have an extremely powerful member of the second generation of the EuroSprinter family in the class 1116. With a maximum speed of 230 km/h or 143 mph and a power output of 7,000 kilowatts / 9,380 horsepower, the "Taurus" is equally suitable for high-class passenger service and heavy freight trains. Soon after delivery of the first locomotives it was apparent that the class 1116 did not need to be equipped with three pantographs for multi-system use. Therefore, all future locomotives were delivered with only two pantographs, and the existing third pantographs were removed in some cases.
