Prototype information

"From the Past into the Future" was presented on July 8, 2021 as the freshly overhauled diesel locomotive, road number 218 497, at the Cottbus facility. The DB Locomotive/Car Maintenance, Inc. (DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH) (FZI) is listed as the owner and its future use is to be as a lease locomotive. The FZI had road number 218 497-6 given a two-part paint scheme, which symbolizes the history of the Cottbus facility from steam locomotive overhauling (black/red) to ICE maintenance (ICE white with red stripes). In the future, the DB-FZI will operate the latest and most environmentally friendly railroad maintenance for Europe in Cottbus. By 2026, a new ICE hall for maintenance and repair of the ICE 4 will be built at the current location, a hall for the conversion of diesel units to hybrid technology with electric propulsion as well as a technology center for hybrid research and modern training facilities will also be built.
