  • Prototype information

As early as the 1950s the boilers on the class 41 locomotives purchased starting in 1936 were beginning to show signs of wearing out. Starting in 1957 they were therefore equipped with new boilers identical to those used on the class 03. Thirty units were also converted to oil firing as part of this rebuilding program and were equipped with a typical oil tender. The rebuilding and conversion program increased the locomotive's power slightly. However, despite good results, the concept of oil-fired steam locomotives could not compete long term with the higher efficiency level of the diesel locomotives.
