  • Prototype information

In 1889, a rail line was built to the elegant spa of Langenschwalbach, now known as Bad Schwalbach. The line ran to Wiesbaden and had grades of about 3.3% as well as curves with a minimum radius 200 meters / 656 feet 2 inches. The Prussian State Railroad had a new type of passenger car built especially for service to the spa. Although commuter cars at that time almost always had two or three rigid axles, the Langenschwalbach cars were equipped with 2-axle trucks, initially with a short wheelbase of 1,650 mm / 65" and a small wheel diameter of 740 mm / 29-1/8".
